The scammers are calling medical professionals in the region pretending to be a Cranberry Township police investigator. They then tell the practitioners there is a warrant out for them and request the practitioners to send them money through Greendot or prepaid gift cards.

The scammers have called more than a dozen physicians in the area and as well as in Ohio, the news station reported.

Lt. Chuck Mascellino told the news stations that police will never ask for money over the phone.
