BianLian has claimed responsibility for the recent hack at Sonrisas Dental Health, Bankinfo Security reported May 12.

The California dental nonprofit suffered a cyber extortion incident affecting 15,644 individuals in March. An investigation determined that an unauthorized actor had potentially acquired certain data within its systems, including names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers and protected health information.

BianLian listed the nonprofit as one of its targets on its dark web leak site, Bankinfo Security reported.

BianLian is one of the most prolific hacking groups targeting healthcare, according to software company Cyble. The group also recently launched a cyberattack on Alabama Ophthalmology Associates, affecting nearly 132,000 individuals. It also allegedly sent data extortion letters to hospitals and health systems throughout the U.S. earlier this year.
