The Minnesota Office of the Attorney General has reached a settlement with the Chapter 7 bankruptcy trustee of a shuttered dental practice.
Marko Kamel, DDS, was the owner of Woodbury Dental Arts. The Minnesota Board of Dentistry temporarily suspended Dr. Kamel’s license after determining that his continued practice would present an imminent risk of harm. The Attorney General’s Office accused Dr. Kamel and Woodbury Dental Arts of deceiving and defrauding patients by misrepresenting Dr. Kamel’s ineligibility to practice and continuing to collect service fees.
Woodbury Dental Arts closed in 2024 after Dr. Kamel said he “ran out of money” and filed for bankruptcy, leaving patients with unfinished dental work and no answers. The practice also filed for bankruptcy.
The settlement enables patients affected by the closure to obtain refunds for services they paid in advance for but never received, according to a Nov. 7 news release.
The Attorney General’s Office said it is currently working to identify and contact patients who may be entitled to refunds.
In addition to the settlement, Dr. Kamel agreed to surrender his license to practice dentistry in Minnesota. He must wait at least 10 years before applying for reinstatement.
