Shuttered dental practice barred from collection efforts

A Milwaukee dental practice that has been closed for several years must stop collection efforts, according to an April 8 report from FOX6 News Milwaukee

Dr. Molar Family Dentistry began sending collection notices to patients in 2021, many of whom had already paid their bills in full. Loc Nguyen, DDS, the dentist at the practice, died in 2020.

A class action lawsuit was filed against the owners of the practice, claiming that they were trying to collect on bills that had already been paid in full, were too old to collect or were written off.

The practice eventually filed for a receivership, an alternative to bankruptcy. The receiver petitioned the court, asking to sell its accounts to a new collection agency.

The court required the receiver to notify every person whom the practice was trying to collect on. About 3,700 individuals received notices.

In March, a Milwaukee County Circuit Court judge issued an injunction prohibiting the practice from continuing any further collection efforts, the report said.
