The Kingsport (Tenn.) Dental Clinic of the Appalachian Highlands is applying for a $10 million grant to expand access to dental services, according to a Sept. 22 report from WJHL.
The grant would allow the clinic to add more operatories, allowing for more patients to receive care. The clinic currently serves rural communities from eight different counties in Tennessee.
The clinic, which opened in July 2024 through a partnership between the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Ballad Health and East Tennessee State University, serves as a rotation site for dental students.
The Tennessee General Assembly has made more than $100 million in funding available through Rural Health Access Modernization Program grants.
If the grant is approved, the clinic will have a four- to five-year period to complete the expansion, the report said.
