The best ways for dentists to respond to online reviews

The American Dental Association released best practices for dentists to follow when responding to online reviews from patients, according to a March 20 news release.

Here are the ADA’s five best practices for dentists:

  1. Keep responses simple and anonymous and do not acknowledge if the reviewer was a patient.
  2. Never reference a specific person or incident to keep the poster anonymous.
  3. If a negative review is posted, respond by encouraging the reviewer to call your dental practice to take the conversation offline.
  4. Avoid being defensive, confrontation or accusative and remain professional, prompt and private.
  5. Legal action should be used as a last resort, and can cause negative publicity.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Future of Dentistry Roundtable, taking place September 14-15 in Chicago, dental leaders and executives will gain insights into emerging technologies, practice growth strategies and the evolving landscape of dental care delivery, with a focus on innovation, patient experience and operational excellence.
