The Academy of General Dentistry has named Jeffrey Okeson, DMD, the 2026 recipient of the Dr. Thaddeus V. Weclew Award.
The Dr. Thaddeus V. Weclew Award is the AGD’s most distinguished honor for dental educators, according to a July 6 news release. The annual award is given to educators who have made exceptional contributions to the field.
Dr. Okeson serves as dean of the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry in Lexington, a role he has held since 2020. He is considered a pioneer in orofacial pain treatment and education, delivering more than 1,350 lectures across all 50 states and 61 countries over the last 52 years.
Dr. Okeson’s textbook “Management of Temporomandibular Disorders and Occlusion,” now in its ninth edition, is widely used at U.S. dental schools and has been translated into 14 languages. He has also published more than 265 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters.
