The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry has broken ground on a 7,200-square-foot freestanding dental clinic in Decatur, Ala.

The center will be located on the Decatur Morgan Hospital’s Parkway Campus, and help recruit, educate, train and retain dentists in Alabama, according to a Nov. 2 news release from the university.

Staffed by UAB School of Dentistry faculty, residents and dental students, the clinic will provide services including emergency dental care, including root canals, extractions and treatment for chipped or broken teeth.

The clinic will include a wet lab, dry lab, sterilization area, four offices, a study zone and access to an adjacent lecture hall for continuing education programs.

Funding for the project is provided by the state of Alabama, the release said.
