The University of Florida College of Dentistry has broken ground on a multi-phase project to improve the college’s dental building in Gainesville, Fla.
The project will add more than 100,000 square feet of teaching, research and patient care space, according to a Dec. 5 news release from the university.
The first phase is an infrastructure upgrade to the current 11-story dental building.
In August 2026, the university will begin building the 100,000-square-foot addition, which will take two years to complete.
Another aspect of the project is the renovation of the 50-year-old dental tower, which is expected to be finished in 2030.
The entire project is the largest investment made by the state of Florida in a medical science building at any state university, according to Mori Hosseini, chair of the UF Board of Trustees.
