Understaffed dental clinic turns away patients

Many patients were turned away from a free dental clinic in Kansas because it was so understaffed, according to the Dodge City Daily Globe.

The two-day dental clinic, organized by the Kansas Mission of Mercy and Kansas Dental Charitable Foundation, opened Feb. 7 at 5:30 a.m. in Dodge City, Kan.

The clinic intended to treat 800 patients a day, but had to cap the event Feb. 7 at 400 people because there weren’t enough dentists.

“We used to set up 60 dental chairs but now have had to cut back to 40 or 50 chairs,” Brett Roufs, DDS, volunteer dentist and coordinator of the event, said.
