A burst pipe flooded the University of Louisville (Ky.) School of Dentistry’s Preston Street clinic over the weekend, forcing the closure of the facility Monday as officials assessed the damage, WLKY reported Sept. 28.
The pipe failed in the attic area above the third floor, sending water through the ceiling directly into the graduate prosthodontics and periodontics clinical area, according to Dean Margaret Hill, DDS. Water then reached clinics on the second and first floors as well as basement workspaces.
Staff shut off the water after discovering the flooding over the weekend. Crews have begun the drying and cleanup process. The school said it would provide updates on when patient care could resume.
