The Virginia Commonwealth University Board of Visitors approved early-construction contracts worth $37 million for a 314,000-square-foot dental school, according to a Sept. 14 report from Richmond BizSense.
The five-story building in Richmond, Va., will replace the School of Dentistry’s current facilities, which have more than $90 million in deferred maintenance and beyond their useful lives.
The school will include classroom space, practice laboratories and general and specialty dental clinics.
The new dental school is expected to be operational in 2030. The board is expected to consider the full construction contract for approval in 2027, the report said.
VCU partnered with the Kahler Slater architecture firm for the building in June 2025.
