The building would house the School of Dentistry’s classrooms, patient clinics and laboratories and be located on university-owned property co-located at the site of the student center, according to a March 4 news release from the university.

Lawmakers in Virginia are currently considering including planning authorization for the project in the state budget.

The governor’s proposed budget includes $5.2 million in non-general fund authorization for VCU to begin planning the facility.

The building will help expand the dental and dental hygiene programs and provide care to patients from underserved populations. The dental school currently graduates approximately 105 dental and 20 dental hygiene students each year, the release said.
