The Virginia Legislature approved funding for Richmond-based Virginia Commonwealth University to construct a new dental school building as part of the state budget.
VCU plans to construct a five-story, 312,000-square-foot School of Dentistry building on its health sciences campus to help improve access to care and strengthen the workforce, according to a June 29 news release.
The facility will house classrooms, academic offices, laboratories and clinics for predoctoral, dental hygiene and specialty dentistry programs. It will be built on the site of the current Larrick Student Center, which is slated for demolition in spring 2027.
Construction is slated to begin in May 2027, with an anticipated completion date of late 2029.
