Washington state’s Dental Quality Assurance Commission indefinitely suspended the license of a Texas dentist.

Paul Choi, DMD, was suspended by the commission by providing substandard care, according to an April 4 news release from the state Department of Health.

From March 2020 to May 2020, while Dr. Choi worked at a dental clinic in Yakima, Wash., he provided patients with nonemergent, nonurgent treatments and failed to assess the health risks to patient health while performing unnecessary treatments during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition, Dr. Choi failed to keep adequate and timely patient records.

Before he can petition for reinstatement in the state, Dr. Choi must pass a jurisprudence examination, submit a list of fees charged to a patient’s treatment from March 2021, pay a $30,000 fine, reimburse $12,346 to the commission, complete an ethics examination, submit a 5,000-word scholarly essay and complete seven hours of continuing education in local anesthesia administration, the release said.
