Madison, Wis.-based First Choice Dental has agreed to pay $1.2 million to settle a class action lawsuit stemming from its 2023 data breach, Claim Depot reported Nov. 1.
Madison, Wis.-based First Choice Dental provided a notice of a data ransomware attack on its network in July 2024. The company first detected the attack on Oct. 22, 2023, when an unauthorized actor gained access to First Choice Dental’s network, encrypted some of the company’s data and attempted to extort a ransom payment.
The data breach affected 228,287 individuals.
Migliaccio & Rathod, a law firm that specializes in data breaches and class action litigation, launched an investigation into the breach last year.
The recent agreement settles allegations that First Choice failed to adequately protect sensitive information.
Class members are eligible to receive up to $6,000 from the settlement.
