A Wisconsin woman accused of practicing unlicensed dentistry has been ordered by a judge to pay a customer $144,000, TMJ4 reported Aug. 12.
The Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services first started receiving complaints about Jessica Stewart and her business, Dr. J Dental Spa in Milwaukee, in 2021 for services allegedly provided to patients despite Ms. Stewart not having a license to practice dentistry. The agency sent a cease and desist letter to the practice and warned of potential fines and criminal prosecution. Despite this, no action was taken until 2024, when the department reopened its investigation.
Wisconsin’s Department of Safety and Professional Services confirmed Ms. Stewart never held a dental license. The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office told TMJ4 in 2025 that it did not pursue criminal charges against Ms. Stewart because the case had not been investigated by a law enforcement agency. The department only has authority to revoke licenses, not pursue cases involving unlicensed practitioners.
Felisha Edwards later filed a civil lawsuit against Ms. Stewart. Ms. Edwards reportedly paid nearly $6,000 for veneers after seeing social media posts promoting Ms. Stewart’s services, but the veneers fell out days later.
A Milwaukee County judge determined Ms. Stewart violated state law for fraudulent business practices.
Ms. Stewart has 20 years to pay the $144,000 judgment. She said in a text to TMJ4 that she takes accountability but called the amount “outrageous,” and said Dr. J Dental Spa is now closed.
