34-practice DSO signs value-based contract: 3 things to know

Orange, Calif.-based Western Dental affiliate Brident Dental & Orthodontics agreed to take part in a value-based care and payment model under Texas' Medicaid program.

Here are three things to know:

1. Brident Dental & Orthodontics supports 34 affiliated dental practices throughout Texas. The dental service organization signed the agreement with DentaQuest in mid-September.

2. The value-based contract will extend through 2019, representing a step away from fee-for-service payments.

3. The Texas Health and Human Services Commission is encouraging DSOs and other medical systems to participate in value-based programs.
