Aspen Dental suffers data breach

Chicago-based Aspen Dental Management suffered a ransomware attack that may have resulted in patient information being accessed.

The attack occurred on April 25, 2023. Following the breach, Aspen Dental partnered with third-party cybersecurity experts to investigate the scope of the incident, according to a Feb. 22 news release shared with Becker’s

Information that may have been impacted includes patients’ Social Security numbers, driver’s license/state ID information, health information, health insurance information, date of birth, financial data, biometric data, and other sensitive information.

Aspen Dental Management provides administrative and business support to independently owned Aspen Dental branded practices. Aspen Dental supports more than 1,000 practice locations.

The company does not have any evidence that patient information has been misused, the release said.
