U.S. seniors travel to Mexico for cheap dental care — 7 key notes

Many seniors in the United States do not have dental coverage, causing them to travel to Mexico to seek cheap dental care, according to CBS News.

Here are seven notes:

1. Approximately 70 percent of seniors are not insured, partly because Medicare does not cover dental care and a majority of employers no long offer post-retirement health benefits.

2. The ACA grants enrollees access to dental coverage only if they buy general health coverage first, which most seniors do not need.

3. Additionally, seniors often require the most expensive dental work including crowns, implants and false teeth.

4. Many seniors are seeking care in places like Los Algodones in Mexico where dentists accept U.S. insurance for extremely low prices.

5. Mexico has lower dental care costs because of cheaper labor and fewer regulatory requirements. Many U.S. residents travel to Mexico to obtain medical needs and prescription medications that often cost much more in the United States.

6. Different countries have different types of equipment and may not have warranties. Often, malpractice lawsuits are not a viable option.

7. Los Algodones dentists stated they attend less school than U.S. dentists but spend more timing practicing clinical work.
