Students provide affordable dental care to Texas residents — 4 notes

Tyler Junior College's dental hygienist students are offering patients cheap dental care, according to Tyler Morning Telegraph.

Here are four notes on the clinic.

1. The cost for services including a dental exam, cleaning, oral cancer screening, dental X-rays, fluoride treatment and dental sealants is $20.

2. Despite low monetary costs, each visit to TJC's dental clinic could last up to 3.5 hours and may entail two or more visits for a student to provide all of the comprehensive preventative dentistry treatments.

3. The students are supervised by dentists and professional dental hygienists. Students must log 700 hours in the clinic as part of their training to become a dental hygienist.

4. The clinic partnered with UT Health Northeast to allow students to serve more patients. UT Health Northeast provided the clinic with a dentist and a dental hygienist.
