Colorado nonprofit subsidizes dental care for 5,000 patients

Dental Aid, a three-location nonprofit organization in Colorado, served about 5,000 patients in 2020 — including 1,500 children — Lisa Reusser, outgoing executive director, told The Denver Post.

Founded in 1974, Dental Aid started as a referral organization, connecting residents in low-income housing to dental providers. In 1980, the organization opened its first clinic in Boulder and has since expanded.

The organization offers discounted rates, accepts Medicare and Medicaid, and offers financial assistance to eligible patients.

Dental Aid's annual budget is around $2.5 million, with 85 percent of that going directly to client services. In 2021, Dental Aid expects to subsidize services for up to 560 children, Ms. Reusser said.
