5 years in prison for former dental office worker who embezzled $177K

A former Virginia dental office employee who embezzled more than $177,000 struck a plea deal to serve five years of a 20-year prison sentence, The Free Lance-Star reported March 8.

Traci Anne Izes, 55, worked in the medical billing office at Sofia Dental of Fredericksburg in 2019 and 2020. The practice investigated after it learned it was losing money and found that Ms. Izes was depositing insurance checks into her personal account or cashing them.

Ms. Izes has served time for embezzlement of two other dental offices in Fairfax and Prince William counties in Virginia.

She was originally charged with 15 counts of embezzlement, but 13 were dropped as part of her plea deal. She was ordered to never again handle money that isn't her own and pay $177,915 in restitution. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison with 15 years suspended, but she may serve more time for allegedly violating her probation, as to be determined during a trial set for next month.
