Maine proposes dental loss ratio

The Maine Senate has passed a bill that would establish a dental loss ratio that aligns with the medical loss ratio required under the Affordable Care Act, Fox affiliate WFVX reported March 23.

The bill was introduced by Sen. Heather Sanborn. It would require dental insurers to spend 80 percent of their revenue on claims and quality improvements versus administrative costs.

Massachusetts is reviewing a similar proposal requiring insurers to spend at least 83 percent of revenues on dental expenses and quality improvements instead of administrative costs.
