ADA requests more transparency in comments on proposed Medicaid rules

The American Dental Association has asked CMS for additional provider payment rate transparency on two proposed Medicaid rules.

The ADA urged states to take corrective action in cases where low provider payment rates are impacting efficiency and access to dental care, according to a July 11 news release.

The organization also pushed for payment parity between the Medicaid and CHIP programs no matter the age of the patient, as provider payments are often much higher for dental services provided to children through CHIP compared to Medicaid.

Other actions CMS is taking, including improving access to care, increasing provider payment rates and reducing barriers to provider credentialing, are supported by the ADA.

The suggestions and comments were also sent to CMS by the Organized Dentistry Coalition, a group that includes 11 dental organizations, the release said.
