California dentists still facing challenges from Change Healthcare cyberattack

Some Medi-Cal Dental providers are still working through processing times and unpaid claims issues stemming from the Change Healthcare cyberattack in February.

The California Dental Association is working with Medi-Cal Dental to help dentists affected by the challenges and delays, according to a June 27 news release.

In addition to the Change Healthcare cyberattack, which disrupted payment and claims processing, the Medi-Cal administrator contract was transferred from Delta Dental to Gainwell Technologies in May.

Here are the resources and recommendations the CDA provided to Medi-Cal dentists:

  • Call the Medi-Cal Provider line, which has increased capacity and staff to handle additional calls.
  • Dental providers experiencing financial hardships from the delayed payments that are impacting daily practice operations can ask Medi-Cal Dental for a “special handling” of their case.
  • For practices that are asked to send paper claims, ensure all required claim fields are provided in the hard-copy documents to avoid further delays.
