The American Dental Association is urging the Federal Trade Commission to investigate competition and transparency within the dental insurance market.

Four notes:

1. The FTC launched the Healthcare Task Force in March to enhance regulation enforcement and oversight of anticompetitive behavior in healthcare in order to protect consumers.

2. The ADA pointed out in an April 29 letter to task force leadership that dental coverage includes unique challenges that are often overlooked in broader health policy discussions.

3. The ADA shared specific concerns related to large market concentration, regulations that limit competition and a lack of transparency with supplemental dental benefits under Medicare Advantage plans.

4. The task force was asked to more closely examine network leasing, contracting arrangements and vertical integration among dental insurers.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Future of Dentistry Roundtable, taking place September 14-15 in Chicago, dental leaders and executives will gain insights into emerging technologies, practice growth strategies and the evolving landscape of dental care delivery, with a focus on innovation, patient experience and operational excellence.
