New Colorado legislation that caps dental benefits and cuts reimbursement rates will go into effect July 1.
Four notes for dentists:
1. Colorado’s $46.8 billion state budget bill, signed in May, caps adult dental benefits at $3,000. It also cuts reimbursement rates by 2%.
2. A separate bill, HB26-1411, places coverage and enrollment caps under the Cover all Coloradans program, which provides medical coverage for children and pregnant women regardless of immigration status.
3. Gov. Jared Polis proposed capping reimbursement rates and dental benefits in November to save the state money and avoid cuts to other services.
4. Gov. Polis also issued an executive order in September to cut Medicaid spending, including a $2,500,000 cut to dental rates and a rollback of the state’s 1.6% reimbursement rate increase.
