Community health centers in Connecticut are considering bringing back dental services after receiving a funding boost from the state, CT Insider reported July 15.
Five notes:
1. Insufficient Medicaid reimbursements led health centers in the state to scale back or completely eliminate dental services earlier this year.
2. Connecticut lawmakers began considering increasing the state’s Medicaid budget after learning that the state is behind others in reimbursement rates.
3. The health centers filed a petition with the state’s Department of Social Services and was considering filing a lawsuit as well, arguing that the formula used by the department to determine reimbursements has resulted in significant losses for health centers.
4. Joanne Borduas, the CEO of the Community Health and Wellness Center, said her organization is considering resuming dental services after the state increased its Medicaid budget.
5. Ms. Borduas said no final decision has been made yet, but they are hoping to bring dental services back by early 2026 at the latest, pending staff recruitment.
