People with special needs will have access to enhanced coverage if their employers opt for the benefits. These benefits include dental consultations, up to four dental cleanings a year, use of silver diamine fluoride to treat cavities and tailored treatment delivery methods for people with conditions such as sensory sensitivities, behavioral challenges and severe anxiety.

The expanded coverage is being offered with the help of the Delta Dental Foundation. The foundation is also sponsoring a free continuing education series through the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in Philadelphia to train dental care providers on treating people with special needs. Those who complete the series will receive a “Disabilities Dentistry Clinician Expert” designation.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Future of Dentistry Roundtable, taking place November 12–14 in Chicago, dental leaders and executives will gain insights into emerging technologies, practice growth strategies and the evolving landscape of dental care delivery, with a focus on innovation, patient experience and operational excellence.
