Dental benefit enrollment among Americans drops 2.3%: 6 notes

Nearly 284 million Americans receive dental benefits, according to the National Association of Dental Plans’ 2025 Dental Benefits Report.

The NADP released its annual report Dec. 9 showcasing key trends in dental benefit plans and enrollment.

Six notes from the report.

1. The total number of Americans covered by some form of dental benefit through employer-sponsored group plans or other group or individual plans represents 83% of the population.

2. The NADP noted that the number of Americans covered by dental benefits has dropped 2.3% since last year.

3. Enrollment in commercial dental plans has declined by 2% since 2023, while enrollment in publicly funded benefits declined by 3%.

4. Dental PPO plans continue to be the most dominant product in the commercial market, the NADP noted.

5. The percentage of individuals covered by Medicare Advantage plans decreased by 11.4%.

6. Medicaid enrollment increased by 0.6%, while CHIP enrollment increased by 1.5%.
