Dental leaders push for medical loss ratios: 4 updates to know

1. A group of dental professionals in Nebraska held a press conference March 5 to voice their support for LB639, which would align dental insurers with medical insurers by requiring them to spend 85% of premiums on patient care.

2. The ADA is pushing for improved marketing of supplemental dental benefits and including all forms of supplemental dental coverage in medical loss ratio calculations. It also argued that optional dental benefits should be included in medical loss ratio calculations under Medicare Advantage. 

3. Washington legislators are considering two companion bills that would require all dental insurance plans in the state to maintain a dental loss ratio of at least 85%.

4. The Alabama Dental Association launched a campaign advocating for dental insurance reform legislation, including a medical loss ratio.
