Illinois weighs 2 bills to boost Medicaid reimbursement rates: 5 notes

Illinois legislators are considering two bills that would increase payments for dentists who treat children under Medicaid, My Journal Courier reported Jan. 14.

Five notes: 

1. The bills aim to improve access to dental care for child Medicaid recipients.

2. House Bill 4393 would increase reimbursement rates by 33% for several services, including comprehensive oral exams, periodic oral exams, problem-focused exams, behavior management codes, sealants, resin-based composites-posterior teeth, and extractions.

3. House Bill 4392 would increase the reimbursement rates for all services provided to children by 50%.

4. Both bills would go into effect Jan. 1, 2027, if passed.

5. The bills were filed by Democratic Rep. Joyce Mason.
