Michigan bans dental insurance payment fees for dentists

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer recently signed a bill that makes it easier for dentists to access their reimbursements without incurring additional fees.

SB 105 requires insurers to offer at least one method of payment that provides dentists with 100% of the reimbursement amount and does not require them to pay a fee in order to access that reimbursement. The bill does not apply to fees imposed by the dentists’ financial institutions.

Gov. Whitmer signed the bill earlier this month, putting the legislation into effect immediately.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Future of Dentistry Roundtable, taking place September 14-15 in Chicago, dental leaders and executives will gain insights into emerging technologies, practice growth strategies and the evolving landscape of dental care delivery, with a focus on innovation, patient experience and operational excellence.
