The Veteran Dental Program is the first of its kind in the state, according to NPR affiliate KLCC.
The dental benefits offered in the new program are separate from those offered by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Teeth cleanings, emergency care, and fillings and extractions are all free under the program, according to the state of Oregon website.
To be eligible, applicants must meet the definition of a veteran as defined by Oregon statue. However, applicants may still qualify if discharged under honorable or other conditions. Eligible applicants must also be at or below four times the federal poverty level.
Veterans who qualify can begin receiving dental services Jan. 1.
