The Pennsylvania House of Representatives approved legislation June 24 that would restore certain dental services under the state’s Medicaid program.
Four notes:
1. House Bill 583 would restore Medicaid coverage for root canals, periodontal disease treatment and emergency exams.
2. These services were cut from the list of covered services in 2011 as part of efforts to save the state money in its annual budget.
3. The state would also continue covering routine cleanings and fillings as it previously has, according to a June 25 news release.
4. The bill now sits with the state Senate for consideration.
