10 states with most, least orthodontists

California has more than 1,000 orthodontists, the most of any state, according to a recent ranking by the Kaiser Family Foundation.

The nonprofit compiled the data from Redi-Data after a special data request from the American Dental Association.

There are 8,153 active orthodontists in the U.S.

Five states with the most orthodontists:

California: 1,045

Texas: 717

New York: 562

Florida: 430

Pennsylvania: 357

Five states with the least orthodontists:

Wyoming: 11

South Dakota: 13

North Dakota: 16

Alaska: 17

Vermont: 18
