California dental school dean appointed to state's new workforce council

Nader Nadershahi, DDS, dean of the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco, has been selected to serve on the Health Workforce Education and Training Council, the California Dental Association said Jan. 24.

Dr. Nadershahi was appointed by California Gov. Gavin Newsom to join the council, which was created through 2021 legislation to coordinate workforce education to meet the state’s healthcare needs.

The council has 17 members representing various healthcare professions. It is tasked with advocating for more funding to expand health professions education and training in California. It's also responsible for creating a funding strategy and providing support for the development of graduate medical education and health professions training in the state.

The state dental agency said the council will prioritize diversity and improving care for patients who are underserved and recipients of the state's Medicaid program.
