As dental therapy gathers steam across the U.S. as a way to increase accessibility, some state proposals are facing opposition from industry leaders.

Four recent dental therapy updates to know:

1. The Florida House of Representatives passed a bill authorizing the creation of dental therapists in the state. 

2. The Academy of General Dentistry and the Minnesota Academy of General Dentistry have raised concerns with the Minnesota Board of Dentistry about a proposal to expand the scope of practice for dental therapists.

3. Michigan licensed its first dental therapist in an effort to improve dental care access in the state.

4. Cheney, Wash.-based Eastern Washington University is planning a master’s in dental therapy program.
