Online recruitment staff and word of mouth were the two most effective ways owner dentists used to hire dental hygienists and dental assistants in 2023, according to a poll from the American Dental Association's Health Policy Institute.
According to the ADA's monthly "Economic Outlook and Emerging Issues in Dentistry" survey from December, 45.3% of owner dentists hired at least one dental assistant in 2023, and 32.1% hired at least one dental hygienist.
Here are the top methods owner dentists used that led to new dental hygienist and dental assistant hires:
Dental society or classified ads: 3.8%
Online recruitment websites: 51.8%
Dental-specific job matching site: 3.2%
Social media: 13%
Local hygiene or assisting programs: 12.1%
Used a staffing agency or recruiter: 10.1%
Word of mouth: 51%
