The Dentist and Dental Hygienist Compact increases license portability across member states for dentists and hygienists, removing the need for dental professionals to gain a license in each individual state.
The compact was activated in April, with the compact’s commission holding its first meeting in September.
There are 10 states currently in the compact, while 15 other states have legislation pending to join, according to data from The Council of State Governments.
Here are three recent updates on the compact:
1. Lawmakers in Texas filed a bill to enter the state into the Dentist and Dental Hygienist Compact.
2. A bill was also introduced to enter Oregon into the compact.
3. In December, a Virginia court dismissed a lawsuit challenging the state’s participation in the interstate Dentist and Dental Hygienist Compact.
At the Becker's 5th Annual Future of Dentistry Roundtable, taking place September 14-15 in Chicago, dental leaders and executives will gain insights into emerging technologies, practice growth strategies and the evolving landscape of dental care delivery, with a focus on innovation, patient experience and operational excellence.
