The bill would establish an advanced practice permit for which licensed dental hygienists can apply. With the permits, dental hygienists could practice in nursing homes, schools, hospitals and clinics.

By removing practice barriers for dental hygienists, the state could increase access to dental care, particularly for underserved populations, according to the publication.

The House passed HB 111 with a 34-1 vote. It now goes to the Senate for consideration.
