The majority of owner dentists are not expecting to conduct layoffs or staff reductions this year, according to a survey from the American Dental Association’s Health Policy Institute.

The ADA surveyed 666 dentists on the changes they have made or are planning to make this year for its “Economic Outlook and Emerging Issues in Dentistry” report for the second quarter of 2025.

Although Becker’s has reported on several practice closures and layoffs this year, the majority of dental practice owners are not looking to lay off staff this year. According to the ADA’s survey, 7.1% of respondents said they have already laid off or reduced staff this year. Only 6.1% of respondents said they may lay off staff at some point this year. Nearly 87% of respondents said they are not planning to conduct layoffs or staff reductions this year.
