A bill in the Idaho House of Representatives aims to expand the scope of practice for dental hygienists in the state.

House Bill 805 allows dental hygienists to perform all dental services within the hygienist’s education, training and experience, as well as services delegated to the hygienist by a supervising dentist, according to the Statement of Purpose for the bill.

Currently, supervising dentists largely determine hygienists’ scope of practice. Under the bill, the Idaho Board of Dentistry could still limit the scope of practice for hygienists.

The bill was referred to the Health and Welfare Committee March 3.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Future of Dentistry Roundtable, taking place September 14-15 in Chicago, dental leaders and executives will gain insights into emerging technologies, practice growth strategies and the evolving landscape of dental care delivery, with a focus on innovation, patient experience and operational excellence.
