The legislation gives tax breaks to individuals who are part of the HRSA’s Dental Faculty Loan Repayment Program by excluding the amount of loan forgiveness from federal income taxes, according to an April 3 news release from the American Dental Association.
The program is designed to alleviate workforce shortages in the dental industry by recruiting and retaining dental staff.
The bill was reintroduced in the House by Reps. Jeff Van Drew, DMD, and Yvette Clarke. An identical bill was introduced in the Senate last year.
The coalition is led by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the ADA, the release said.
