Florida career academy aims to reduce dental assistant shortage

Suncoast Career Academy opened a training facility in Brandon, Fla., to help alleviate the state’s dental assistant shortage, according to an April 18 report by ABC affiliate WFTS.

The program will be open to high school graduates and adults looking to pursue a career as a dental assistant, medical assistant or pharmacy technician. 

The new facility will help students gain more hands-on experience. 

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the country will need 25,700 more dental assistants by 2032.

The program has had 50 graduates since its inception, the report said.
