Statesboro-based Georgia Southern University will break ground April 29 on construction of the state’s second dental school, NBC affiliate WSAV reported.
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp proposed opening the dental school in January 2024 to address the state’s shortage of dental professionals. He signed legislation granting the university $178 million for the school later that year.
The school, which will be located in Savannah, will enroll 50 dental students and 20 dental hygiene students each year.
Construction is expected to be completed by May 2028.
