How orofacial pain dentist supply has grown since emerging in 2019

The number of U.S. orofacial pain specialists has increased from zero in 2019 to 25 in 2021, according to recent data from the American Dental Association.

The ADA collected data on the total number of dentists and the ratio of dentists per capita in a January 2022 report.

An oralfacial pain dentist must be competent in the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation and prevention of oralfacial pain disorders, according to the American Board of Oralfacial Pain.

Number of oral pain dentists from 2019-21:

2019: Zero

2020: 11

2021: 25
