The Indiana House has passed a bill to create a pathway for foreign-trained dentists to obtain a hygienist license.
House Bill 1254 would allow dentists who have graduated from dental schools outside of the U.S. and have earned degrees similar to a U.S. DDS or DMD degree to be eligible to apply for hygiene licenses in the state. Those seeking hygiene licensure must submit academic transcripts to the Indiana State Board of Dentistry for review and meet all other licensure requirements.
The bill passed the House earlier this month and was sent to the Senate for review. If signed into legislation, the bill would go into effect July 1.
