The first state has passed legislation to adopt the Interstate Dental & Dental Hygiene Licensure Compact, with Louisiana passing HB543 into law without opposition.
The IDDHL Compact was developed by the American Association of Dental Boards and streamlines the licensing process for dentists and dental hygienists looking to practice dentistry in multiple states, according to an Aug. 5 news release shared with Becker’s.
In addition, IDDHL legislation in Mississippi passed both chambers of the state legislature and the Oklahoma House of Representatives passed legislation to join the compact.
In Texas, Missouri, Kentucky and Maryland the compact was introduced.
The compact also maintains patient safety standards through uniform competency requirements and preserves state’s authority of dental licensing, the release said.
